GTA 6 launch day guide
Short answer: GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026. The US Xbox Store lists it at 12:00 AM ET (9:00 PM PT on November 18); Rockstar itself has not announced an unlock time. If it will not download or start, check the official status pages below before changing anything, and ignore any "GTA 6 cheats" list — we have no verified codes to recommend.
Countdown to the store's listed release
—
Times are the Xbox Store's own listing (US time re-read October 29, 2026), not a Rockstar announcement. The PlayStation Store listing could not be read, so PS5 is not confirmed to match. Full table: release time in every region.

GTA 6 server status
We do not run our own "is it down" tracker — only the companies running the servers know. These are the official pages:
| Status page | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Rockstar Games Service Status | Rockstar's own online services, listed per game and platform |
| PlayStation Network Service Status | PSN sign-in, PlayStation Store and downloads |
| Xbox Status | Xbox network sign-in, Microsoft Store and downloads |
Is it you or the servers? Work down this list:
- Open the status page for your console. A red or amber entry for the store or downloads means wait — nothing you change at home will fix it.
- If everything is green, try another online app or game on the same console. If that fails too, the problem is your connection: restart the router, then the console.
- If other things work and only GTA 6 does not, go to the fixes below.
Stuck download, locked game and other launch problems
These are the standard console fixes for problems every big launch gets. Specific GTA 6 error codes will be added here after November 19, only once they are actually being reported — we are not going to guess them.
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Not enough space | Rockstar has not published the size. Free space on the internal drive (or a PS5 M.2 SSD / Xbox Storage Expansion Card) — GTA 6 cannot be played from a USB drive on either console. Storage calculator. |
| Pre-load did not start on November 12 | Pre-load is for digital pre-orders or a redeemed box code. Check the purchase is on the account signed in to the console, then start the download manually from your library. Preload guide. |
| Download stuck at one percentage | Check the status page first. Then pause and resume the download, fully restart the console (not rest mode), and switch to a wired connection if you can. |
| Downloaded but "locked" or won't start | Check your store region's release time in the countdown above. After that, sign in with the account that bought the game; PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. Xbox: make sure this console is set as your home Xbox. |
| Asked for a system update | Install the latest PS5 or Xbox system software, restart, then launch the game again. |
First steps in GTA 6
Updated after launch. We have not tested the opening, so we do not offer a tested walkthrough or invent specific opening steps. What Rockstar has published: the game follows Jason and Lucia in Vice City and the wider state of Leonida, and Rockstar describes it as "a single player experience". Get to know the cast and places before you start:
- GTA 6 characters — the eight people Rockstar has profiled.
- GTA 6 trailers — every official trailer and the Extended Look.
- Leonida map — the locations Rockstar has shown.
- GTA 6 radio stations — the stations revealed so far.
GTA 6 cheats
We do not yet have verified GTA 6 cheat codes to recommend (checked October 29, 2026). We have not verified working codes. Do not treat an unverified list or a recycled GTA 5 code as confirmed GTA 6 guidance. If working cheats turn up after November 19, they will be listed here with the date they were confirmed.
GTA 6 launch day FAQ
What time can I play GTA 6 on launch day?
Rockstar has not announced a launch-day unlock time for any region. The Xbox Store's own listing puts the release at midnight on November 19 in each store region (12:00 AM ET in the US), but that is store data, not a Rockstar announcement. In the US that listing is 12:00 AM Eastern on November 19, 2026 — 9:00 PM Pacific on November 18.
Is there a GTA 6 server status page?
Rockstar runs a Service Status page at support.rockstargames.com/servicestatus; Sony and Microsoft run their own for PSN and the Xbox network. As of the date on this page Rockstar has not said which of its services GTA 6, a single-player game, will rely on at launch.
Why is my GTA 6 download stuck?
Check the PlayStation or Xbox status page first — a store-side incident is one possible cause. If they show no problem: make sure the console has enough free space, pause and resume the download, restart the console fully (not rest mode), and use a wired connection if you can.
GTA 6 is downloaded but won't start — why?
Either the release time for your store region has not been reached yet, or the console cannot see your licence. Sign in with the account that bought the game; on PS5 use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, and on Xbox check the console is set as your home Xbox.
Are there GTA 6 cheats?
We do not yet have GTA 6 cheat codes verified by this site. Treat unverified lists as unconfirmed rather than working codes; we will record the source and test date when reliable confirmation is available.
What should I do first in GTA 6?
We have not tested the opening and do not offer a tested walkthrough. This page will add player-tested steps after release; meanwhile the linked official character profiles and trailers provide background.
